As an entrepreneur, you have a lot of things to do and not enough time to do them all. How do you decide what to focus on and what to delegate or postpone? That’s where task prioritization comes in.
Task prioritization is the process of ranking your tasks according to their importance and urgency, and then allocating your time and resources accordingly. In this blog post, I will share with you a simple yet effective framework for task prioritization that will help you boost your productivity and achieve your goals faster.
Task Prioritization Framework
This is a framework which I have developed based on the Kano Model for customer satisfaction.
Introduction to Kano Model
- The Kano Model is a framework to prioritize features based on customer satisfaction
- It was created by Dr. Noriaki Kano in 1984 to understand customer needs and loyalty
- It identifies three types of customer needs: expected, normal, and exciting
- Expected needs are the basic features that customers take for granted and will cause dissatisfaction if missing
- Normal needs are the features that customers specify and will increase or decrease satisfaction depending on their quality
- Exciting needs are the features that customers do not expect and will delight them if present
How can you prioritize your tasks and time?
You know how challenging it can be to juggle multiple tasks and projects at once. But not all tasks are created equal. Some tasks have a bigger impact on your business goals than others.
That’s why it’s crucial to prioritize the tasks that drive growth for your business.
Prioritizing growth tasks means focusing on the activities that generate more revenue, attract more customers, or increase your brand awareness. These are the tasks that will help you scale your business and achieve your goals faster. By prioritizing growth tasks, you can also avoid wasting time and resources on low-value or low-impact tasks that don’t move the needle for your business.
How can you prioritize growth tasks using this framework?

Here’s how this task prioritization matrix for business owners works:
1. Delegate tasks that do not add any significant value (Refer the PINK curve in the framework)
These are basic tasks to keep the business running. Train your team and delegate. Monitor periodically using reports
2. Keep improving the performance tasks (Refer the BLUE line in the framework)
These are activities that produce directly proportional impact. These are competitive and driven by customer wants. Keep improving, make a schedule and upskill your team. Gradually delegate but closely review the progress.
3. Growth tasks – the drivers of growth (refer the GREEN curve)
These deliver exponential impact on your growth and goals. Schedule time blocks for your growth tasks and stick to them. Time blocking is a technique where you dedicate a specific amount of time to a specific task or project. This helps you avoid distractions and procrastination and increase your productivity and focus.
4. The Reverse category (Refer the ORANGE arrow)
There could be some activities or behaviour that have a reverse impact on your growth. Identify and eliminate such behaviour and tasks.
Review and Adjust

Review and adjust your priorities regularly. Your business environment and goals may change over time, so you need to review your priorities and make sure they are still aligned with your vision and strategy.
You can do this weekly, monthly, or quarterly, depending on your needs. You can also use feedback from your customers, employees, or partners to inform your decisions.
Prioritizing growth tasks is not easy, but it’s worth it. By doing so, you can boost your business performance, optimize your resources, and achieve your goals faster.
